Early Influences
Dr. Ruchira Varshney’s philosophy of care was shaped early in life through her family’s strong emphasis on healthy living and holistic wellness. Growing up, she regularly traveled to India, where she was immersed in traditions that focus on identifying the root causes of illness and maintaining overall balance in health. Observing the importance of daily routines such as nutritious eating, regular exercise, restorative sleep, mindfulness practices, and positive social connections deeply influenced her understanding of long-term well-being.
These principles were integrated into her family life from a young age and became foundational to her personal and professional values. Later, while helping coordinate medical care for her parents, Dr. Varshney gained firsthand insight into the complexities and limitations of the modern healthcare system. This experience strengthened her desire to create a practice centred on meaningful physician-patient relationships, open communication, and compassionate care.
Medical school and residency
After high school, Dr. Varshney attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She then pursued the study of medicine, receiving her medical degree from The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Lutheran General Hospital. Upon graduation, she received the Humanitarian Award, given to the resident who best exemplifies the humanitarian spirit.
Professional practice
Dr. Varshney was awarded a National Health Care Scholarship from the federal government. It led to her first professional position, with a Federally Qualified Health Center where she cared for an underserved population. She then transitioned to Advanced Healthcare which has ultimately become Advocate Aurora Healthcare where she served as a primary care physician until 2023.
The inspiration for Sansara
Dr. Varshney’s evolution as a physician during her career has led to Sansara Concierge Medicine, a practice that combines her personal learning with her professional training. She recently completed extra training to become certified in Health and Wellness / Lifestyle medicine through Harvard’s Executive Education Program. Fundamentally, Dr. Varshney believes that human beings have the capacity to feel better and can benefit from a guide in their quest for wellness. Dr. Varshney strives to have a positive impact on her patients, knowing that such an influence can extend to the ones they love. Recognizing the interconnectedness of health and life, Sansara uses a holistic approach that incorporates lifestyle medicine with primary care. Dr. Varshney’s goal is to unlock human potential and help her patients become their optimum selves.
